Morocco edge Ivory Coast in group D

Morocco quest for a second AFCON titled continued as they edged out Cote D’Ivoire in a top of the table clash in Group D. The 1976 champions beat the Elephants courtesy goal from Leganes striker Youssef En-Nesyri In what was a battle between former AFCON winners, Cote D’Ivoire’s started on the attack and they almost took the lead in the opening minutes with Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodijia almost heading in from Serge Aurier cross,  but Romain Saiss was able to head off the line for Morocco. Following Kodijia’s header, it was Morocco’s turn to threaten t Cote D’Ivoire’s goal through former Juventus centre back Mehdi Benatia. The Al-Duhail got on the end of a Ziyech cross but could not keep his header low.  The Atlas Lions continued to dominate possession with Ajax star Hakim Ziyech running the show, but they failed to create any real chance on goal. DPO and lover arrested, over dead of housemaid

The police in Katsina state have arrested a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Garba Talawi and his girlfriend, Sadiyya Alhaji Danyaya over the death of a 16-year-old housemaid. The DPO attached to Mashi Local Government, Mr Garba Talawai, and his girlfriend, Sadiyya Alhaji Danyaya, were said to have arrested over the death of the housemaid, police reports. This was made known in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina police command, SP Gambo Isah, and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Katsina. “A councillor in Mashi local government, Abubakar Haruna, reported to the DPO Garba Talawai that a corpse was seen at a bush path in Mashi. “The DPO and his team went to the place and evacuated the corpse which was deposited at Mashi Primary Healthcare Centre. “Later, the corpse was identified as that of Rabi Abdullahi, 16, a housemaid to one Sadiyya Alhaji Danyaya, a girlfriend of the DPO. “Some health personnel on duty also identifi...

Staff kill employer and mum, Two day after resuming

A domestic staff has killed his employer and her mother in Surulere area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria two days after resuming duty. The gruesome incident occurred on Thursday, as the domestic staff, Joseph Ogbu, 22 from Benue State was arrested by the police in connection with the killing. Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Bala Elkana, in a statement on Thursday said on 20 June, 2019 at about 3am, the Surulere Police Station received a distress call from No 4 Ogulana Drive. Surulere that one Joseph Ogbu, 22 years old from Oju Local Government Area, Benue State, who was employed as a domestic staff on 18th June, 2019 murdered his employer Oreoluwa John, 38, and her 89 years old mother, Adejoke John at their apartment. - A highly upsetting photo of a Nigerian lady processing palm oil locally recently surfaced online - In the picture, the woman was knee-deep in the palm oil she claimed to be refining - This picture has triggered angry reactions from Nigerians who consider her method of processing to be unhygienic A man identified as Ikechukwu Ani on Facebook shared a photo which has been considered by many to be irritable. In the picture he posted, a lady was spotted processing palm oil locally. The unidentified lady was knee-deep in the palm oil which was enclosed within a hole dug from earth. Her clothes were filthy and wet from the stain smeared on her by the oil, and in her hands, was some crude waste that was unpleasant to the eyes. Even the environment in which the woman and others were doing the processing did not look appealing. It was dirty and surrounded by green leaves. Container falls on Danfo bus at iyana iba

Lagos State is really battling for its life in terms of trucks and containers in the state. Last week, it was reported that a 20ft container fell on some cars at Apapa where they cause serious damages to both the cars and the owners. Just this week, another container has fallen on a Danfo Bus at Iyana Iba. Though it was reported that no casualties as the bus was empty when the incident occurred. Men of the LASTMA were already on the ground to control traffic and to ensure a smooth flow for drivers. Even though there was a presidential order to get rid of these trucks off the road, the order has been effective save for some parts in Apapa and Tincan Port where they are yet to fully comply. Buhari charge super Eagle to go for gold

President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the Super Eagles to play every match for the honour of their motherland as they file out in their first match against Burundi in the African Cup of Nations holding in Egypt. The President, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Saturday, urged the Eagles to lift the flag of Nigeria high, and reinforce the reputation of the country as a football powerhouse on the continent. He said: “I will be watching, just as millions of Nigerians would also do. “You have our solid support, and we will cheer you to victory,”he said. He added: “Nigerians are known for their unconquerable spirit. Show this in the group stages, and even beyond. Nothing but lifting of the diadem is good enough for our country,”he stated. He also enjoined the Super Eagles to be mindful of fair play, and sportsmanlike conduct, as they strive to return home with the AFCON trophy.

Barcelona star agree to replace hazard

Barcelona star, Philippe Coutinho, has decided to join Chelsea, according to Mundo Deportivo. Brazilian star is keen on filling the void left by Eden Hazard, who left Chelsea for Real Madrid. Liverpool, Manchester United and PSG are also chasing the Brazilian star, who had admitted that he may not be at Barcelona next season. The newspaper reports that the attacking midfielder would welcome the return to England and sees Chelsea as the “ideal destination” for him. Chelsea are in search for a star man to replace Hazard. However, the deal will depend on whether FIFA upturns Chelsea’s transfer ban.

Three time African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria started their campaign for a fourth title with a nervy 1-0 win over the Swallows of Burundi.
